On 5 May in Nouakchott, the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Bilal Messaoud, received Mr. Aly Saleh Diop, the Senegalese Minister of Livestock and Animal Production, currently visiting Mauritania.
The talks focused on the cooperation relations between Mauritania and Senegal and the ways and means to further strengthen them.
Soon after the meeting, Mr. Diop said he was very honored to be received by the Prime Minister. He stressed that relations between Mauritania and Senegal are so excellent. He added that he constantly wanted to come to Mauritanian soil to renew the affection that President Mr. Macky Sall had for his brother and friend, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
He added that he is here in Mauritania as part of the preparation for the Id al-Adha. He indicated that beyond its spiritual character, that feast is an economic event and that Senegal has always sought its neighbor’s help to cover its needs in sheep.
Regarding the preparations for the event, the Minister said that the Senegalese President had instructed all the ministries concerned to suspend taxes on trade in cattle between our two countries for 60 days before Id al-Adha and 45 days after it. He also requested to relax the conditions for transporting livestock from Mauritanian territory to any point in Senegal.
