Day of Reflection on Leadership of Elected Women
The works of a day of reflection under the theme of: «leadership of elected women for an egalitarian future in a Covid-19 world” have started Wednesday in Nouakchott. This event, which is organized by the national commission for Human Rights in collaboration with the network of the locally elected women and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, falls within the framework of the commemorative festivities of the women’s international Day. The participants will discuss topics such as the absence of women in decision-making positions and the impact of Covid-19 on women entrepreneurs. In a speech on the occasion, the president of the National Commission for Human Rights, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Bouhoubeïny, praised the militant journey of Mauritanian women and the struggles to showcase their capabilities. On his part, the representative of the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Laurent Meillane, said that this event provides an opportunity to discuss ways to empower Mauritanian women. He added that his organization would support the initiatives of Mauritanian women. The president of the network of the locally elected women (Mauritanian section), Mme Aicha Mint Beddy, welcomed the collaboration between the network and the national commission for Human Rights. This collaboration has enabled the Mauritanian woman to regain her rights and assume decision-making positions. She, finally, urged women to redouble their efforts to assume their responsibilities in the construction of the country.
