The Director of Electricity at the Ministry of Oil, Mines, and Energy, Mrs. Fatimetou Sidelemine, has affirmed that the State is committed to implement large projects allowing it to generate electricity from clean and renewable sources.
Supervising the opening of the Mauritanian Association of Renewable Energy Engineers’ conference on Sunday evening in Nouakchott, she indicated that this approach comes within the framework of the mining strategy, which seeks to provide energy from local sources and increase the share of renewable energies, highlighting its sector plan in this field, which aims to reach 50 %, as a percentage of access to renewable energy, compared to 32% in 2015.
Mrs. Fatimetou Sidelemine noted the qualitative leap in the field of transmission and distribution of electricity, through the progress of work in high-voltage lines between Nouakchott and Nouadhibou, on the one hand, and Nouakchott and Zouerate, on the other, stressing that the electricity transmission network is a fundamental pillar for the exploitation of national energy resources, which will contribute to advancing economic growth, by encouraging investment and income-generating activities.
In turn, the Vice President of the Mauritanian Association of Renewable Energy Engineers, Mrs. Kebadah Mint Salihi, explained that the association aims to develop renewable energy in Mauritania as well as a market for that energy, reviewing the most prominent problems faced by national engineers in this field.
Participants in this conference, held for the first time, will follow many valuable lectures in the field of renewable energy, in addition to a presentation on energy conversion in Mauritania.
