Mauritanian Ferries Company: Contact Tool Between two Neighbors

The ferries company of Rosso, which was created in 1993 and became the Mauritanian company of ferries in 2008, is responsible for transporting people and goods between the two banks of the Senegal River. The first ferry, which was capable of carrying 15 tons, started its activities in 1951 before being replaced by another 34-ton ferry in 1956. Thanks to the Mauritanian-German cooperation, two 80-ton ferries were acquired by the company in 1975 and 1981. These two ferries and a competent staff currently ensure the durability of the traffic, which sometimes reach in religious occasions and holidays the transportation of 1000 people in both directions and dozens of vehicles loaded with goods. In an interview with AMI, the general manager of the company, Mr. Brahim Fall, said that the company offers hundreds of jobs opportunities to the inhabitants of the city of Rosso and contributes to the development of the country, in general, and the district of Rosso, in particular. He added that the company constitutes a tool for cultural, religious, economic, and social contact between Mauritania and Senegal, two brotherly countries united by common fraternal and historical ties.
