President of Republic Returns to Nouakchott

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President-in-office of G5 Sahel countries group, returned to Nouakchott Sunday afternoon from Paris after having attended the ‘One Planet Summit’ on 11 January 2021, at the invitation of French president Emanuel Macron. During his visit to Brussels on 14 January, His Excellency the President of the Republic held discussions with the president of the European Council, Mr. Charles Michel, about the fruitful cooperative relations that unify Mauritania and the EU, on one hand, and the EU and G5 Sahel group on the other hand. Brussels’ visit was an occasion for the President of the Republic to meet with the Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jens Stoltenberg. The discussions focused on different aspects of cooperation between Mauritania and NATO and the ways and means to further strengthen them. The President of the Republic also reviewed with the Secretary General of NATO, during a joint press conference, the security challenges facing the region, in the light of the plans adopted in recent meetings and summits, particularly the Pau Summit, which resulted in a new road map to address ‘’ terrorism’’ in the region. The President of the Republic was received at Nouakchott’s International Airport Oumtounsy by the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Ould Bilal Messoud, the Minister Secretary General of government, some members of the Government, the Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, the Wali of Nouakchott West, and the President of the Regional Council of the Capital. The President of the Republic was accompanied, during his trip, by an important delegation including: – The First Lady, Dr Mariem Fadel Dah – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Ismael Ould Cheikh Ahmed – The Minister of Environment and Sustainable development, Mme Mariem Bekaye – The President of the republic’s cabinet director, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine – Mr. Ahmed Ould Bah, Known as Hmeyda, adviser at the presidency of the republic – Mr. Ahmed Ould Bahine, in charge of a mission at the presidency of the republic -Mr. Harouna Traoré, in charge of a mission at the presidency of the republic. -Mr.El Hacen Ould Ahmed, General manager of the state’s protocols.
