National Mechanism for Prevention of Torture Visits Nouakchott Prisons

The National Mechanism for prevention of Torture continues its field visits to many detention centers in Nouakchott to check on the conditions of the prisoners and detainees. In this regard, the President of the National Mechanism for Prevention of Torture, Mme Moulaty Mint El Mokhtar, paid a visit, along with members of the Mechanism, to many centers, including the civil prison, Minors prison, and prison of Dar Naim. During these visits, the president and her accompanying delegation were informed of the conditions of the inmates and the extent of the strict precautionary measures adopted inside these institutions to ensure the health of the inmates and protect them from Covid-19. It is to be noted that the National Mechanism for Prevention of Torture launched a series of visits to prison institutions on 24th of this month, following the organization of training activities to the Mechanism members.
