Mauritania Calls On Parties on Northern Borders To Exercise Restraint, Uphold Logic of Wisdom

Nouakchott, 11 November 2020 (AMI) – Mauritania said it has followed with great concern the manifestations of increasing tension on its northern borders, in the area of El Guerguarat. According to a press release issued on 13 November by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mauritania called on all parties to the conflict to exercise restraint and to uphold logic and wisdom. Here is the full text of the press release: “The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has been following, for several weeks now, with great concern the manifestations of increasing tension on its northern border, in the area of El Guergaratt. To defuse the situation, it had initiated several contacts with all parties concerned. Today, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania calls on all parties to exercise restraint and favor the path of wisdom and reason. It urges all actors to preserve the ceasefire and to seek an urgent and consensual solution to the crisis, in accordance with the mechanisms and modalities of the United Nations; a solution which preserves the interests of the parties and spares the area further conflicts”.
