Human Rights Commissioner Announces Imminent Launch of Program To Promote Social Cohesion

On 9 December, Mr. Cheikh Ahmedou Ould Ahmed Salem Ould Sidi, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society said that the government has continued the implementation of the expanded Awlewiyati Program, which contains the largest number of simultaneous projects in the history of the country. The aim is to raise the purchasing power of citizens, improve access to basic services, and create job opportunities. He noted that this important program has benefited nearly two million people so far and created more than 6000 permanent or temporary jobs. In a speech on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, Mr. Ould Sidi announced that the Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, in line with what was stated in the "My pledges" program and as a contribution to strengthening and consolidating national unity and peaceful coexistence, would launch at the beginning of the next year a national program called "Coexistence" to enhance social cohesion. Within this program, social and economic projects and activities of joint management will be implemented, with the aim of strengthening the bonds of harmony and cohesion among the components of Mauritanian society.
