His Excellency the President of the Republic of Niger, Mr. Mohamed Bazoum, expressed, in a speech during his participation, today, in the work of the Nouakchott summit on education in the Sahel, his pleasure to participate in this meeting, which brings together the G-5 Sahel states with a large team from the World Bank to review the education situation in the Sahel.
He highlighted the importance of making this issue a priority today in the debates of the G-5 Sahel, indicating that all the young people recruited by terrorist groups did not go to school and did not benefit from a quality education because the education system is not up to the expectations.
Mr. Bazoum said that the G-5 Sahel States must promote their education systems to offer quality education and training to our children so that they can face their future like all children in the world.
He added that Niger approves the choices contained in the white paper, which aim to improve children’s reading skills, as reading is the basic element with which one must start. It also approves girls' empowerment and access to education, as he put it.
He explained that Niger had decided, in this context, to open boarding schools in all high schools in the country, because it is the girls who drop out of studies early, which dictates affirmative action in their favor.
The Nigerien President also highlighted the importance of improving the skills of young people and their literacy to enable them to contribute effectively to the development of their countries.
He finally thanked His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, for the warm welcome and the generous hospitality.
