MNPT Delegation Visits Former President

On 5 July 2021, the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture (MNPT) made an inspection visit to the place of detention of the former President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. In a statement released today, the MNPT, which was able to speak with the manager of the place, considers that the conditions of detention of the former President are good, making it clear, however, that the detainee did not wish to receive them. The statement reads as follows: "The permanent office of the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture has, in accordance with its mandate and within the framework of the periodic visits to places of deprivation of liberty that it regularly organizes, carried out, today 05 July 2021, a visit to the place of detention of the former President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, to inquire about his conditions of detention and ensure that his rights are respected.
