President of Republic Holds Discussions with European Council President

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, acting President of G5-Sahel group, met, Thursday at the premises of the European council in Brussels, with the president of the European council, Mr. Charles Michel. Both parties discussed the bilateral relations and means to further strengthen them between Mauritania and the European Council as well as between such European body and the G5 Sahel group. It is to be mentioned that European military forces take part in efforts to restore security and stability in Mali and fight against the armed groups in the three-border zone, situated between Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. The European Union is considered as a strategic partner in the development efforts, both for Mauritania and for the G5 Sahel group. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, M. Ismael Ould Cheikh Ahmed, president of the republic’s cabinet, M. Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine, and Mauritanian ambassador to the European Union, His Excellency Mr. Abdallahi Ould Kebd.
