President of Republic Attends One Planet Summit Opening

The One Planet Summit was opened, Monday in Paris, in the presence of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. The summit, which was kicked off by the French President, Emanuel Macron, in the presence of several world leaders and international figures, aims at giving greater importance to green diplomacy after the lethargy that marked the efforts to save the environment due to the COVID-1 pandemic. The summit would witness the introduction of initiatives and concrete commitments by world leaders regarding the four main topics of the summit, which are protecting land and sea ecosystems, promoting agricultural ecology, mobilizing financing, and preserving species and human health. This summit represents a clear endeavor and a response to the call of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to confront the security challenges in the Sahel region through the approach of development, especially the provision of food, and considering hunger as the fertile ground for the growth of terrorism and extremism. The Mauritanian security approach for maintaining peace and security, and fighting terrorism is based on local development and creating job opportunities for the population in the agricultural and livestock sectors, which will make it possible to ensure food self-sufficiency. Thanks to this vision, Mauritania was able to become the only country that purged its entire territory from Salafist militants through a wise security and development approach. In all his speeches, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, has called for writing off the continent’s debt, revitalizing its economic sources, and making Africa a preferred destination for investments. In his speech, the French president expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, for his participation in the fourth edition of the One Planet Summit. Addressing the President of the Republic, the guest of honor, he said: “You are known for your commitment and for consistency between your words and actions.”
