Universal Periodic Review: Human Rights Commissioner Leaves for Geneva

On 9 January, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Mohamed El Hacen Ould Boukrheiss, left for Geneva to participate in the work of the Human Rights Council. During this trip, the Commissioner is expected to present to the Council the national report on the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). It should be noted that the UPR is a process which consists of reviewing the progress made by all the UN member states in the field of human rights. As a result, it gives the opportunity to each State to present the actions undertaken to improve the human rights situation in its territory, and, at the same time, satisfy its obligations in this area. Mr. Mohamed El Hacen Ould Boukrheiss is accompanied by a delegation made up of representatives of the various sectors concerned by the report and by the promotion and protection of human rights in general.
