The Inter-ministerial committee on human rights met, Monday in Nouakchott, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Bilal Messoud. The meeting was devoted to the evaluation of the national program and human rights mechanisms in Mauritania which constitute a major axis of the program of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. During the meeting, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Mohamed El Hacen Ould Boukhreiss, presented a detailed report on the progress of the implementation of the commitments made by our country within this framework, in particular at the level of the international conventions signed by the country. He also recalled the measures and provisions that should be taken to complete the implementation of all the commitments made in this regard by Mauritania, particularly in terms of protection and respect for individual rights and freedoms, more particularly those of women and children, as well as support to courts specializing in dealing with issues related to different forms of slavery through capacity building of their human resources and their specialization. The Inter-ministerial committee congratulated the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society for the quality of the work it has done over the past year in terms of developing the institutional framework, execution and follow-up of international commitments that have so far been honored up to 96%, in addition to its constant efforts to continually adapt the national legal content to the conventions to which Mauritania is a signatory.
